KOLA MADE COKE FAMOUS

Kola nut has been cultivated and consumed for thousands of years in West Africa as a powerful natural stimulant. It has always been meant to ignite adventure, connection, and contemplation. To inspire one to bring life, good energy, and equity to their community.

Kola was first discovered by the West in the 1500's through the colonization of West Africa where most of the 12.5 million enslaved Africans were taken aboard ships headed for Brazil, the Caribbean and America via the Transatlantic Slave Trade. As a result, the kola nut has been grown in Brazil and Jamaica for nearly 400 years and is a popular stimulant among locals to this day.

Eventually kola found its way to America and shortly after, in the 1880's, a Confederate soldier by the name of John Pemberton created a concoction containing kola nut and coca leaf. Pemberton would go on patent the formula and name the product Coca-Cola, changing the "k" in "kola" to a "c" for alliterative marketing reasons. Large soda companies haven't used real kola for its caffeine content in nearly 100 years.

Fast forward to 2021 - kola nut and West Africa have been left out of the Coke/Pepsi story. While the soda giants became global machines worth a combined market-cap of over $465B at time of writing - the whole of West Africa has struggled to find stability, prosperity, and equity. For example, Nigeria's total GDP as a country is $397B while the rest of West Africa's combined GDP is only $225B. All this while kola farmers across West Africa live on less than $2 a day.

That is why we are reclaiming kola
